Framingham, Massachusetts driver C.J. McLaughlin led the Saturday afternoon pre-season test session for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards at Daytona International Speedway with a lap at 180.538 miles per hour. The run gives McLaughlin and his Our Motorsports team a needed morale boost headed into the 2019 season.
McLaughlin is a veteran of the northeast stock car scene, with experience at tracks like Thompson Speedway and in race series such as the American Canadian Tour for late models. His first laps at Daytona were very emotional.
“I am still on cloud nine,” McLaughlin said. “To start from where I did to make it to Daytona is humbling. The icing on the cake was topping the leaderboard in the afternoon test session on Saturday.”
McLaughlin expects to announce a limited ARCA Racing Series schedule in the coming weeks with Our Motorsports and sponsor SciAps.
“We have a number of races we’re looking at doing and we hope to have an announcement by the time we come back to Daytona in February,” he said. “I can’t thank SciAps, Andy Seuss, and Our Motorsports enough for this opportunity.”
The first official track activity of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season will come on Thursday, February 7when the teams receive two hours of practice starting at 4 pm ET. There will be another hour of practice on Friday, February 8 starting at 9:30 am ET followed by General Tire Pole Qualifying at 3:30 pm ET.
